This was my first attempt at 3D animating using a rig, in the first video we were tasked with creating a short narrative through animating a ball and tail rig with basic environment design. In the following video is my walk cycle animation practice. Since then I have done a lot of work on NPR-based 3D modelling, a style that has interested me since the Spider-verse movies came out. This has encouraged me to experiment and work on my own process.
Projects

These objects were the first experiments with NPR in which I used basic deformation and texture painting with the grease pencil to create this effect. There was a lot of trial and error with the texturing as the so-called painterly effect has many ways to approach it. My method with these objects was to hand paint the textures and grease pencil, and then using procedural textures using Voronoi and noise textures which I plugged into the normal map of the objects to affect the lighting.
However, these objects were just the start as I wanted to challenge myself to create a character with this style which I could use as my own brand identity. The process was quite lengthy as I had to conceptualize my character through drawings which I could reference when blocking out my character in 3D. After blocking out I had to UV unwrap all the pieces before getting onto the texturing which was tedious but straight forward after practicing on the other objects. I utilized the same techniques combing hand painted textures with procedural and then using the grease pencil to create an outline as well as the facial features.
After texturing I used basic rigging with bones allowing me to pose the character as needed.

3D Work
3D is where my passion lies, as I am able to express myself in a multitude of ways through product, character and environmental design. I am always trying to learn new things that can improve my process and the 3D landscape is always being pushed by new technology and techniques.
